'The statutes of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than even pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.' Psalm 19
βIf you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.β John 8
As of 1995, the Christian Bible is the best-selling book of all time, according to Guinness World Records. This is an estimate of 5 billion copies sold and distributed worldwide. While this is true, what really matters and of highest priority β who desires to read the Bible (Gods Word), and learn His kingdom plan and will through it... to obtain everlasting salvation, spiritual growth, and be Jesus' true and genuine Disciple.
The complete Old Testament and New Testament of the Bible has been translated from the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek language text, including some with the Latin Vulgate, into over 700 languages. The New Testament individually has been translated within other foreign languages globally, reaching 1,650 translations.
At the end of the 7th century (over 1,300 years ago), there were handwritten sections of Scripture not in its entirety, translated for English-speaking people in several countries of the world, before the United States was populated.
Many people say they don't believe in Jesus or the Bible because there are too many Bible translations, or I don't believe it to be true and trustworthy. This would be two of many of their Bible skepticism and doubt arguments.
In the 66 books of the Bible (Christian Scripture), these were written over a lengthy period of time in Hebrew (Aramaic) and Koine Greek, by a diverse set of over 40 contributing writers, in a variety of styles and personalities, by men inspired by the Holy Spirit. Essentially, the Bible really has only one author β the God-man (the Son, He is the Word... John 1), equally, the Holy Spirit. The Bible claims to be the Word of God, over 3,000 times throughout both Testaments.
Scripture is ΞΈΞ΅ΟΟΞ½Ξ΅Ο ΟΟΞΏΟ (theopneustos), or βGod-breathed."
The Bible is the primary evidence record of the Christian faith, in a history span written over 1,500 years; this includes geography, archeology, testimonial, prophecy, and genealogy support from Adam, to the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, and continued Bible prophecy fulfillment and His New Earth and kingdom plans for the future.
The Bible (the Word of God) is a real His-story (history), continuous narrative, from beginning to end, despite it being a compilation of 66 books. However, it's not recommended to proceed from start to finish like we are accustomed to reading like other books, but to cross-reference study topic throughout the Bible. The individual books of the bible were written at different time periods of history, some are not in consecutive order, like the book of Job (jobe) for instance.
It's worth your time and consideration reading the Good News of the Gospel. This is the single most important, life-changing area for your soul. We suggest to begin your journey in the book of Luke and John, in the Bible.
Technically and realistically speaking, there is only a few original English translations of the Christian Scriptures from the original copies of manuscripts we have currently of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts, with the additional help of the Latin Scriptures to certain degrees. Then, some decades or centuries later, became additional versions of English translations with word synonyms and sentence structure arrangement changes. Some, due to new supported information, like the Dead Sea Scrolls for one example. However, retaining and preserving the outcome of the core meaning of the text copies.
There are some translations where Christian Scripture is paraphrased frequently, or to some degree. But still overall, preserves the meaning of the verses as much as possible, though most would define the paraphrased as versions, not necessarily translations. They are mostly not word-for-word translations of the Hebrew and Greek, so some paraphrase versions miss the true meaning in certain areas, or water it down frequently.
There are dozens of English translations of the Bible that have been published over the years. We really don't need so many English translations. Critics of Christianity are correct on this position above. But, if we could all read Hebrew and Greek, all the English translations wouldn't be a discussion about translation from other languages and difficulties and hurdles that arise from the language barrier process of different nations and cultures.
To be fair, many English versions, translations, updates or revised editions, mostly the past 85 years have been developed by utilizing some of the existing translations published hundreds of years ago, in order to make children's, teen, and adult study Bibles. These may include: red letter, other color or highlight features, Hebrew and Greek interlinear, amplified versions and cross-reference and side or bottom notes on the page, frequently with paraphrase or commentary, and even popular ministry, teacher or pastor comments on the side notes.
There are inherent variations between Hebrew, Greek and English languages. Most languages have very few terms that have a precise translation in another language, especially word-for-word translation. Additionally, grammatical constructs vary among them.
One of the first written by hand English translations of the New Testament, primarily from the Latin, was developed by John Wycliffe born in 1328. Translation began around 1368, and he died in 1384. This work later continued on and was concluded by Miles Coverdale in 1535, the first printed and mass-produced English Bible.
The first to claim a published English translation of the Greek manuscripts was the martyred William Tyndale's, Geneva Bible New Testament in 1526. Later published again in 1557, and additionally, a complete Old and New Testament Bible was published in 1560. An updated mass-production publication translation in Britain was in 1599, now a historical, popular online version.
The 1537 William Tyndale and Myles Coverdale, the Matthew's Bible (Matthew's version) is another translation during this time period. In addition, Myles Coverdale, the Great Bible (The Kings Bible) published in1539.
There's a Geneva Bible translation which is intended to be read aloud in church as well as by families and individuals in past history. The 1560 Old Testament, 1557 New Testament and later, a revised publication of 1599, is now free online. Before the 1560's, people were used to hearing the Bible strictly read in churches only, partly due to limited copies. The Geneva Bible was the first English Bible to include numbered verses in each chapter.
Before the 1611 King James Version (KJV) Bible translation, several other English Bibles were officially used:
1609 The Rheims-Douai Bible.
1568 The Bishops' Bible.
1560 Geneva Bible.
1539 The Great Bible.
1535 Myles Coverdale's Bible.
1526 William Tyndale's New Testament.
The 1611 KJV Old Testament was primarily from the Masoretic Hebrew text. The New Testament from the Textus Receptus (received text) series of Greek texts. Additionally, when creating the KJV, the translators utilized the 1610 English Douay Rheims New Testament and included numerous passages or ideas carried over from it.
In 1611 the English KJV (Authorized King James Version) was published, and at first was primarily for use in churches. Some have estimated and have the assessment that around 20% of the KJV came directly or indirectly from the writings of the Geneva Bible, and many say the two translations are fairly similar in numerous passages throughout. In addition, the writers made use of the 1526 William Tyndale's English New Testament translation to help develop the 1611 KJV.
KJV controversy (1611 King James Version):
Some may have criticism and arguments over the KJV (English King James Version) Bible. However, we do need to take into account this version, along with the GNV (1560 Geneva Version) was available to English-speaking countries for about 400 years.
Before other modern versions and translations like the original 1973 NIV, or RSV for example, came along in the 1940s; for the English 1). 1560 GNV (Geneva Bible), 2). the 1582 DRA (Douay Rheims) and 3). 1611 KJV (Authorized King James) were used in the United States.
These three translations were the primary source for the Good News of the Gospel of Christ and His salvation message for up to 200 million people in the United States up until 1946, when the RSV (Revised Standard Version) publication was added as another option just 78+ years ago. Then came the New American Standard Bible (NASB), published in 1971. Finally, in 1973, the NIV (New International Version) and many other translations and versions since.
On this site, we use several English translations and one paraphrase at times. However, the most utilized is the KJV. Additionally, we have some support passages from Hebrew and Greek to English Interlinear.
"...the wonders of God in their own tongues" [language] Acts 2
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fades: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Isaiah 40:8

Are paraphrased Bible versions good?
When it comes to the paraphrased versions, these may help with difficult phrases that may apply more to the modern reader. The good news of the Bible may come alive more with a paraphrased version in a new way for some, compared to using King James, for example, with the old English, which may be distracting to certain readers at times.
Therefore, a paraphrase can be a useful tool in understanding the biblical message more clearly on specific passages. If children are hesitant or don't read the King James due to old English style hurdles, it's better for them to at least read a paraphrased version temporarily β than nothing at all β and later in age transition to KJV, NKJV translation or other close equivalent. Keep in mind, the KJV (King James Version) is at about a 6th grade level for most countries.
The meaning of the text that is given in the paraphrase is often assumed to be the Scripture meaning of the text. This is not always the case, as some paraphrased verses in certain cases may result in another meaning outcome or expanded interpretation of the text.
The paraphrased versions of the Bible strive to achieve enhanced clarity and readability for people that may desire this. Other secular literary texts use this similar method of paraphrasing for simplicity as well.
Listed below is an example on John 1:1-3, on six popular translations and versions, and the differences, but retaining the meaning of the passage, but other passages of the Bible are frequently not always necessarily the case:
In the beginning was that Word, and that Word was with God, and that Word was God. This same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by it, and without it was made nothing that was made. John 1 (1599 Geneva, GNV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (1611 King James version, KJV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. (1982 New King James version, NKJV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (1973 New International Versions, NIV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being. (1971 New American Standard Bible, NASB)
Paraphrased version:
Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God. He has always been alive and is himself God. He created everything there isβnothing exists that he didnβt make. (1971 The Living Bible, TLB)
In conclusion, a paraphrased Bible should be studied alongside a full translation frequently (like the King James, New King James, New American Standard Bible, version, or other), not exclusively using a paraphrase long-term. This helps us with more accuracy of the text and meaning, rather than only the one contained in the paraphrase version that has similarities in some passages like a Bible commentary. Paraphrased versions are useful in your studies and spiritual growth, and recommended especially for children and teens to help grasp the meaning of Scripture.
Bible contradictions argument:
Many people say they don't believe in Jesus or the Bible because there are too many contradictions in the Bible. There are about 30 most popular alleged contradictions the Christian community hears about from secular skeptics and others, but we are not going to go into these at this time. If you , desire to read the Bible, get yourself one translation, like the King James, New King James, New American Standard Bible Version or equivalent, in addition, to pull these up online, and your on your way to increased spiritual growth and closer relationship with your Creator and Savior. It's always useful to have a second, different translation for deeper more precise study.
The following, are some answers, and reasoning to the position of these apparent contradictions and, accusations skeptics and others may use.
Due to all of the Bible being given in a mostly geographical, historical, cultural, doctrinal and literary context β these factors must be taken into account in our deeper study and learning as much as possible, as we seek to understand and interpret many of the Bible passages properly. This moreso applies to more mature in the faith individuals as we get the meat of the gospel, not new in the faith believers.
These so-called contradictions are typically due to many of these core mistakes and errors occurring:
β’ A person taking verse(s) out of context, and applying to what you want it to mean, or other false narrative.
β’ A person's initial misunderstanding of certain Bible texts, may create a barrier for a detractor or others to take the next step.
β’ Mistakes in personal interpretation and often lack of proper methods of interpretation, (biblical hermeneutics).
β’ Many cases of not interpreting the Scripture text topic, with other books of the Bible.
β’ The person may revert to taking verses out of context, due to not believing in Christ, and not having the Holy Spirit indwelling you.
β’ You may have spiritual blinders or scales on your eyes, or can't hear the spiritual things of the Lord.
β’ Not using place and time in Bible history for the text, culture and people in the story.
β’ You may allow the Devil to steal the seed (God's Word), from your mind and heart before it grows.
β’ Many people do not take into account the translation process and trying to match the Hebrew or Greek language and meaning to English, Spanish etc. (example: may require use of two English words to describe one Hebrew word).
β’ We may not understand the verse initially because of it being a figure of speech, symbolism, parable or hyperbole (though Jesus breaks down some parables etc.).
β’ Some say the Bible contains contradictions and inaccuracies, but in reality it's just another excuse for not believing in Jesus Christ and His Word.
β’ Skepticism or doubts people hold on to, due to desiring their immoral lifestyles, pride, selfishness and sins.
β’ Some people distort verses to apply to a philosophy, wealth prosperity, science, religion or other agenda.
β’ May not understand certain parts of the Bible due to the cults deceiving doctrine or practicing the occult, causing confusion and influence.
β’ Spiritually blind eyes from demonic oppression, sins, money, or other stumbling blocks and barriers in your life.
β’ It is simply people trying to insert meaning and interpret the Bible to say what it doesnβt say.
β’ Many secular skeptics pursue the Bible to say what they want it to express, so that it may support what they feel.
β’ A classic case of going to Scripture with one's own pre-conceived ideas and skeptical agenda (like the subject of slavery taken out of full passage context and also not cross-referencing).
β’ The claim that the Bible has errors is continually just another excuse of many, for not following Christ.
β’ When there are textual variations in English translations at times, but treat them as contradictions.
β’ A persons pre-existing attitude, mindset, hardened heart, or skeptical heart.
Another example below, for the argument of many translations, and them being so different, which in some cases they are, but mostly retain the final meaning or outcome. Comparing a few of the most popular English Bible translations on the critical theological passage of Colossians 2:9:
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. KJV
For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. NKJV
For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,. NASB
For in Christ the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, ESV
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,. NIV
Notice how these translations do point out in agreement, one of the core areas of who Jesus Christ is with His attribute of being fullness of the Godhead:
β all 5 translations refer to Christ (in Him or Christ).
β all 5 translations agree on fullness.
β all 5 translations use Godhead or Deity.
β all 5 translations say dwells or lives in.
β all 5 translations agree on bodily (physical, flesh or person).

Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told youβunless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him. For I am the least of all the apostles. Acts 10

There are some things we accept as half-truths, but may have more serious consequences than others, especially if it's concerning spiritual matters and the afterlife. This much is true in earthly things... cults, the occult and religiosity.
We live with half-truths β of varying types and styles. Satan has been continuously developing counterfeits in many forms to distract, confuse and deceive mankind for centuries.
Half-truths and gaslighting; A statement or belief that conveys only part of the truth. This is used deliberately in order to distort or manipulate absolute truth, facts, and evidence to deceive someone intentionally or unintentionally.
Almost every human being is in search of the truth, most asking and seeking the answers to the same questions; what is truth, and where can I find the truth? The problem is not people asking the question, but do they really want to acknowledge and accept the answer.
Absolute truth is defined as; the true or actual state of a matter; conformity with fact or reality; a verified or indisputable fact of truth. A source that is personal, unchanging, and sovereign over all creation, and transcends time. If it was true at one time, it remains true at the present time. The absolute truth is true regardless of how a person thinks or feels about the topic.
Absolute truth in the Creator
The only absolute truth is the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and His Word β the Christian Bible. The Creator of the universe has established this absolute truth, because He is all knowing and love, and His divine nature and character is absolute truth.
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1
..even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. John 14
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. John 17
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.β John 8
God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Numbers 23
Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3
Then Pilate said to him, βSo you are a king?β Jesus answered, βYou say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the worldβto bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.β John 18
...so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. Hebrews 6
But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us Godβs deep secrets. 1 Corinthians 2
When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spiritβs words to explain spiritual truths. But people who arenβt spiritual canβt receive these truths from Godβs Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they canβt understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. 1 Corinthians 2

Some may wonder why our site does not always show verse numbers when we list a Scripture topic?
Bible chapters and verses can be very helpful, but in some ways they actually make Bible reading for new readers distracting or more difficult. Usage of verse numbers, additionally may elevate the possibilities of taking things out of context, leading to misunderstanding the Bible passage.
Many people are unaware the chapter and verse addition to Scripture was first used about 465 years ago, and was designed for some purposes of location reference and study guidance, which we all completely enjoy and encourage.
In our website we list all chapters of Bible books, but generally do not list verse numbers and range, in order to not complicate the simplicity for people new to the Bible, with certain exceptions in the Popular FAQ Topics page. Finally, for encouraging the reader to pull up the full chapter if desired, and to test everything you read or hear, to the Bible authority, and encourage reading in full context. You are welcome to copy the verse passage we list and paste in your browser search for more Bible study.
The Lights' Afterglow dictionary definition is the glow remaining after a light has gone away, as after a sunset. It's the 'light' afterglow often seen in the sky after sunset, a secondary glow. It's the glow remaining where a light once was.
In contrast, the spiritual "Light" of the Lord, His seal, remains from the Holy Spirit indwelling our body and His light shines through us in the darkness. This occurs only if you're a genuine follower of Christ. In comparison to the light of a lamp or the sun's afterglow gradually fading away as an image, His Light is eternal and stays with us as a believer. The Lord Jesus Christ is the source of literal light, and spiritual light and life, and He is the Light of the World.
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
